
Knighthawks Sting Swarm in Opener

Joel McCready scored two fourth-quarter goals in 38 seconds to propel the Rochester Knighthawks to an 8-6 opening-night victory. The back-to-back National Lacrosse League champions opened the 2014 season by raising their 2013 championship banner.
McCready finished with a career high with two goals, three assists and five points. Dan Dawson also had a big night, scoring two goals and adding four assists. In goal, Matt Vinc turned aside 45 shots.
Minnesota lost on opening night for the fifth straight season. The Swarm led 5-4 after three quarters, but could not put away the Knighthawks. Minnesota outscored Rochester 3-0 with Tyler Haas scoring the fifth goal. He finished the contest with two goals as he staked the Swarm to a 6-5 lead at 5:10 of the fourth.
Just over two minutes later, McCready found the net twice to give Rochester a 7-6 lead. Johnny Powless (two goals) added an insurance goal off a feed from Joe Walters (1+1) with 2:31 to play. Swarm goalie Tyler Carlson finished the game with 26 saves.
On January 11th, the Knighthawks will host the Philadelphia Wings at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. That night, Rochester will induct the newest member into the team's Hall of Fame. Tickets are currently available by calling the Rochester Knighthawks' office at (585) 454-4295.
