April 5, 2014 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks completed a two-game sweep of the Minnesota Swarm tonight, following a 12-9 victory at The Blue Cross Arena. With the win, Rochester improved to 11-4 and opened up a two-game lead over the Buffalo Bandits in the East Division.

The Knighthawks were backstopped by Angus Goodleaf, who tied his career-high with 42 saves to earn his second victory of the season. Defenseman Dylan Evans had another successful night at the faceoff circle, winning 13 draws, while picking up nine loose balls. Fellow defenseman Scott Self collected six loose balls and chipped one assist to give him points in four of his last five games.

Offensively, Johnny Powless continued his impressive play, scoring a career-high five goals to give him eight in the past two days. Stephen Keogh, who had a career best six assists, finished with eight points. Rochester also got four-assist efforts from Dan Dawson, Cody Jamieson and Joe Walters, while Cory Vitarelli notched a season-high six points (4+2).

Rochester led the entire game, as it jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on goals by Keogh, Powless and Vitarelli. The K-Hawks would built a 5-1 lead on additional goals by Keogh and Powless in the first quarter. Powless would finish the first half with three goals as he completed his hat trick at 2:02 of the second quarter.

With the score 7-5 after two, Rochester stormed out of the locker room with four straight goals to take a commanding 11-5 lead. Joel McCready struck just 23 seconds into the third, and Vitarelli followed with his third of game off a quick stick goal at 5:42. After Powless scored a nifty goal off a stick fake at 8:06, Vitarelli scored 13 seconds later off a rush down the left wing. The six-goal advantage was the largest lead of the game for the Knighthawks.

Minnesota hung tough and rallied with three goals, but Powless' marker at 5:29 of the fourth put an end to the Swarm comeback attempt. Minnesota, who fell to 3-12, got four-point games from Callum Crawford (3+1) and Logan Schuus (2+2). Former RIT star Jordan McIntosh chipped in three assists.

The Knighthawks will host the Vancouver Stealth on Saturday, April 12th at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. Tickets are currently available by calling the Rochester Knighthawks' office at (585) 454-4295.
