Knighthawks Sign Defenseman Colin Boucher

Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks have announced the signing of defenseman Colin Boucher (BOUCH-er) to a two-year deal. It was a quick turnaround as the first-year pro met his new teammates at the team's Wednesday night practice in Six Nations.

"It's very exciting. It's been the best team in the league the past couple of years," said Boucher. "It's just kind of overwhelming how it all worked out that I got here."

The 27-year-old Boucher played in four games with the Vancouver Stealth this season and collected two assists and three loose balls. In 2014, the Huntsville, Ontario native was signed by Buffalo as a free agent after attending the Colorado Mammoth's Training Camp. At 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, Boucher will add his rugged style to an already solid defensive unit.

"I am a big guy so making the offensive guys as uncomfortable as possible is really fun for me," he said.

For the past four years, Boucher has played professionally in the Canadian Lacrosse League (CLax) for the Durham TurfDogs and the Barrie Blizzard. A three-time CLax All-Star Team selection, he has won the league's Defensive Player of the Year award in 2012 and 2014. Boucher has appeared in 33 games and notched 29 points, and was staring to play more of a leadership role before he made the jump to the NLL.

"That's what I started taking over more in CLax," he said. "I was the guy calming everyone down and getting more vocal. Hopefully, I can bring that to the table and help the 'D' here."

Like the Knighthawks, Boucher has been on a championship run over the past three years. Not only did he win back-to-back Mann Cups with the Six Nations Chiefs of Major Series Lacrosse (MSL), but he also captured the Presidents' Cup in 2013 with the St. Catharines Saints. One of his teammates with the Saints was Rochester defenseman Ian Llord.

"I know he's dedicated and he loves lacrosse because he drove all the way to St. Catharines from his hometown (to play)," said Llord. "That's quite a drive. He definitely wants to win."

That three-hour commute was about the same distance he traveled Wednesday to join his new NLL team. After practice at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the former Senior "B" Top Defensive Player recapped his first day with the Knighthawks.

"It was good. I got to feel everyone out at practice," he said. "It was a different tempo and pace than I am used to. I liked the situational things like the three-on-twos, two-on-twos and five-on-fives. It's stuff we are actually going to use in a game and get the experience from in practice."
