Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks used a four-goal fourth quarter to defeat the first-place Philadelphia Wings 11-8 tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. Forward Mike Accursi led the comeback with three of his game-high seven points in the final quarter.

The game was crucial for the Knighthawks, who improved to 4-5 and ended their four-game road losing streak. More importantly, Rochester improved to 2-0 against the Wings and now owns the season-ending tiebreaker. The Knighthawks moved within a half game of first place with the victory. The Wings remained in a first-place tie with the Toronto Rock at 4-4.

Cody Jamieson (2+4), Stephen Keogh (2+2) also had big nights offensively. Jamieson's third point was the 100th of his career. The Wings got five-point efforts from Dan Dawson (1+4) and Kevin Crowley (3+2). On a night where one of the greatest goalies of all-time had his number retired, goaltenders Matt Vinc (Rochester) and Brandon Miller (Philadelphia) each had stellar nights in goal. Vinc made 45 stops, while Miller turned away 39. The game began with the retiring of Dallas Eliuk's No. 35 Wings jersey.

Rochester led the entire first half before yielding the lead at 2:01 of the third quarter on a behind-the-back underhanded goal by Dawson. Rochester's Brad Self continued his five-game goal-scoring streak by tying the contest at six at 7:30. Crowley responded by hitting for his second of the game for a 7-6 Wings' lead at 8:44. That would be the last lead for Philadelphia.

The Knighthawks tied the game at seven off an over-the-shoulder pass from Accursi that found Craig Point alone in front. His goal at 10:39 started a 4-0 Rochester run. Accursi provided the offense to start the fourth with two goals from in tight. His third goal of the game, at 5:26, made it 9-7 Knighthawks. Cory Vitarelli tacked on another goal to give the Hawks a 10-7 advantage. After Crowley completed the hat trick, Joe Walters scored with 13 seconds to play to give Rochester the road win.

Rochester will host the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday, March 10th at 1:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The first 5,000 fans will receive light-up thundersticks. The game will be broadcast on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and www.sportsradio950espn.com.
