Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks battle the defending champion Toronto Rock tonight at 7:00 p.m. The East Division Finals will be televised live on CBS Sports Network, which is available on Time Warner Cable Channel 232 and 1027 in HD. The game will be carried on radio on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and www.sportsradio950espn.com .
The game between Rochester and Toronto is a rematch of last season's East Division Semifinals won by the Rock, 10-8. This time, however, the Knighthawks will have some hometown support at the Air Canada Centre, courtesy of Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres. In the spirit of his new motto, "Go Big or Go Home," he booked nine buses for 500 fans to travel to the playoff game.
"I think it's a wonderful thing that the owner is taking such an interest in the fans coming to the games both in town and the bus trip to Toronto," said Andrea Kleve, who also took advantage of the free tickets given to season ticket holders for the East Division Semifinals.
"There is no owner in the National Lacrosse League and quite possibly the entire sports world that has shown his commitment to the fans and their passion for lacrosse. The complimentary tickets to the home playoff game, and the complimentary bus ride and tickets for season ticket holders to the Eastern Division Finals strengthens the bond of the Knighthawks to their season ticket holders," said longtime season ticket holder Tim Knab.
The Knighthawks defeated the Philadelphia Wings 14-13 in a thrilling game last Friday night at The Blue Cross Arena. The Knighthawks advanced to the division finals for the first time in five years and have now won three of their last four games. The Knighthawks won their last divisional final, rallying to beat the Buffalo Bandits 14-13 in overtime en route to their second championship in 2007. Rochester ended its season with wins in two of its last three games to improve to 7-9 and clinch second place in the East Division. It marks the highest finish for a Knighthawks' team since the 2007 season. The consecutive playoff appearances mark the first time the team has advanced to the postseason in back-to-back seasons since 2006-07.
Toronto edged the Buffalo Bandits tonight 7-6 to head to the division finals for the third straight season. The Rock rallied for a 4-0 and 6-2 first-half deficit to defeat the Bandits. The Rock finished 9-7 and won the East Division. Garrett Billings was second in points with 114 and set the single-season assist mark with 82. Rose was 5-1 with a 10.69 goals-against average and a .751 save percentage.
The winner advances to the NLL Finals next weekend against the winner of the Edmonton-Minnesota game.
