Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks will travel to play the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday, April 26th at 7:30 p.m. The game is available on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and online at www.sportsradio950espn.com.
Head-to-Head: The Western New York rivals have met 52 times during the regular season. Rochester leads the all-time series with a 30-22 record.
Knighthawks Notes: The Knighthawks (13-4) enter the contest as winners of eight of their last nine games. Rochester needs one more win to tie its single-season wins record of 14 set back in 2007. Last Saturday, the Knighthawks knocked off the Buffalo Bandits 8-4 at The Blue Cross Arena. Buffalo (8-9) lost for the seventh straight time, which is a franchise record. The four goals scored were also the lowest offensive output in the team's 23-year history. The four goals against tied a Knighthawks' team record, which was set in 2008. An even more impressive stat was that the Rochester defense only yielded one even strength goal in 60 minutes of action. Goalie Matt Vinc made 45 saves, including 13 in the first quarter. Rochester was led offensively by a three-goal, one-assist night from Johnny Powless. Joe Walters also tied a career-high with five assists. Joel McCready, Cody Jamieson, Derek Hopcroft, Cory Vitarelli and Brad Self each recorded one goal and one assist efforts in the win. Powless now has 17 goals and 10 assists in his last seven games. The victory was the 100th home win in Knighthawks history.
Closing in on the Century Mark: Cody Jamieson is two points away from his 100-point season. He would become the first Knighthawk since John Grant Jr. to hit the century mark in a season. Williams registered 111 points during the 2007 campaign. Jamieson is also locked in the NLL Points Race, entering the final game of the season tied with Shawn Evans for second place. The duo trails Garrett Billings by three points (101).
Dawson Can Smash Assist Record: Dan Dawson's 66 assists are just two away from breaking Shawn Williams' single-season team record. Williams dished out 67 during the 2009 season.
100-Club Members: For the first time since the 2009 season, the Knighthawks have three players with 100 or more loose balls. Brad Self leads the team with 123, while Dylan Evans is second with 117, and Scott Self is third with 100.
Playoff Update: Rochester will play the winner of the East Division Semifinal, which will feature the Buffalo Bandits and the Toronto Rock (8-9). Buffalo can host the game with a win or with a Toronto loss on Saturday. The East Division Semifinals will take place the weekend of May 2-4. The division finals will kick off the following weekend in either Buffalo or Toronto. Rochester will host Game 2 of the East Division Finals on Saturday, May 17th at 7:30 p.m. Knighthawks Playoff Tickets are on sale at ticketmaster.com.
