Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(Rochester, June 3)... The Rochester Knighthawks players and coaches may have traded in their National Lacrosse League uniforms in May, but they are still representing the K-Hawks in three Canadian summer leagues. Assistant Coach Mike Hasen and 16 players are back on the floor in the Major Series Lacrosse, the Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior "A" league and the Western Lacrosse Association.

The Mike Hasen led Brampton Excelsiors are atop Major Series Lacrosse with a 3-0 record. The Rochester Knighthawks assistant coach is getting help from a familiar place in his first season as the top man in Brampton. Knighthawks forward Shawn Williams is second in the MSL with 13 points (4+9) in three games.

"He's been consistent. We are lucky to have him here and back for another year," said Hasen. "Everyone in Rochester knows what he can do and he is doing that for us."

The Excelsiors are bidding to become the first team three-peat since the 1996 Six Nations Chiefs. Brampton is off to a good start, earning two wins over Kitchener-Waterloo and one against Six Nations.

One of the teams picked to challenge for the Ontario crown this season is the Peterborough Lakers. The Lakers are 1-0 after beating Kitchener-Waterloo 11-5 on Tuesday. Shawn Evans (2+5), Mark Steenhuis (1+5) and Scott Evans (4+1) led Peterborough to victory. John Grant Jr. did not play due to a work commitment. Other Knighthawks on the Lakers include Mac Allen, Kevin Fines, Steve Toll, Chris Driscoll and Kyle Laverty.

"It was great to get back on the floor and see everyone in the dressing room. It took me a quarter to get my legs under me," said Fines. "It was nice to get the first game and first win out of the way."

The Knighthawks also boast four players on the Six Nations Chiefs (1+1): Craig Point, Cory Bomberry, Jason Henhawk and Sid Smith. Andrew Potter is a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks, while Joel McCready is playing for the Langley Thunder of the WLA.

Peter Jacobs is playing for the Six Nations Arrows Junior "A" team that earned an incredible 9-8 comeback win over the Toronto Beaches Monday. Jacobs' (2+0) second goal of the night sparked a 4-0 third quarter to led Six Nations to victory. The Arrows improved to 4-2 with the win.
