Knighthawks Back in Town Sunday
July 2, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
Two months ago, Cody Jamieson was driving to Rochester to lead the Rochester Knighthawks back to the National Lacrosse League Finals. This weekend, Jamieson will make the same drive down I-490 into the Flower City.
"It's always fun when you go home. Rochester is a second home. It's not going to feel like an away game. That's for sure," said Jamieson. "The drive is exactly the same as a Knighthawks game. You stop at the same places and you see the same people. It's another home game for me."
Jamieson has enjoyed his home away from home, earning back-to-back Championship Game MVP honors en route to back-to-back NLL titles. His last game in Rochester was on May 4th, as he shrugged off an injury to notch one goal and four assists in a 12-10 victory over the Minnesota Swarm in the East Division Finals.
Jamieson returns to Rochester with the Hamilton Nationals on Sunday. He is one of four current Knighthawks on the Major League Lacrosse team's roster. The Nats also employ some of the same lacrosse staff and are owned by Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres.
On the field, Jamieson will be joined by Knighthawks teammates Joe Walters, Stephen Keogh and Sid Smith. Former Rochester transition man Jordan Hall also plays for the second-place Nationals (6-3), who will battle the Rochester Rattlers (4-5) at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 7th at Sahlen's Stadium.
"It's a unique situation where a lot of fans of the Knighthawks come out and support us because we have four of us on the team," said Walters. "It will be fun to go back and play in front of the Rochester fans. I'm excited."
Walters (1+5) and Jamieson (3+3) both had big games in the 11-10 victory on March 11th over the Washington Stealth. Walters, who is a Rochester native, netted the game-winning goal in the 2013 NLL Championship Game. He finished third on the team in playoff points with 12 (3+9). Walters currently leads the Nationals with 17 assists, and ranks second with 30 points.
Keogh ranks second on the Nationals with 15 goals and fourth with 19 points. In 2013, the former first-round pick of the Knighthawks collected 24 points (13+11) in 12 NLL games. During the run to his second straight NLL title, he contributed five points (1+4) in two playoff games. Keogh, who enters his third season with the Knighthawks in 2014, looks forward to coming back to Rochester for the weekend.
"It's a great city and it will be fun to go back there, but we're there to come out with a win against the Rattlers," said Keogh.
For Knighthawks Team Captain Sid Smith, the trip back will mark the first time he will play for the visiting team in Rochester. Smith made his return to the MLL this season with the Nationals.
"I have never played in Rochester in this league so it will be exciting to see what happens," said Smith.
The Rattlers are encouraging Knighthawks fans to attend the game by offering $10.00 tickets. To purchase tickets, call Nathan Snyder at (585) 454-4295 ext. 3023, or visit the Sahlen's Stadium Box Office and mention "Knighthawks."
