Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Rochester Knighthawks forward Joe Walters will dish out more than lacrosse balls this week, as he serves pancakes at the Marbles4MS fundraiser Sunday morning in Penfield. The lacrosse player, turned chef for a day, will end his week with the Pancake Breakfast to benefit the National MS Society.

Walters will whip up pancakes at Don's Original in Penfield (2055 Fairport Nine Mile Road) to benefit Marbles4MS. The two-time team community service award winner will attend the event from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., along with other local celebrities including YNN's Kate McGowan. Tickets are just $6.00 and can be purchased by calling (585) 200-4605.

Marbles4MS was the idea of then 5-year-old Connor Grossman. Connor came up with an idea to raise money to help his mother who suffers from the debilitating disease, Multiple Sclerosis. Connor wanted to sell his artwork to help find a cure to "fix his mom and everyone with MS." Connor's older brother Jackson is now Production Manager for the project, and together, they make paintings by placing paper in the bottom of a cigar box. They dip the marbles into paint and then into the box one at a time. Then close the lid and shake like crazy. Since March 2011, they have raised over $40,000. "I have had the pleasure of meeting Connor and Jackson. What they are doing for their mother and the MS Society is truly amazing," said Walters. "I am honored to be a part of their efforts in raising awareness and look forward to teaming up with them on Sunday morning."

"We have been absolutely amazed at the support the Rochester Knighthawks have given our fundraiser Marbles4MS. It started with a simple conversation with (Special Projects Manager) Wendy Staats. She graciously donated items to be raffled off at our event and then invited us in so my kids could meet their favorite lacrosse hero, Joe Walters," said Michael Grossman. "Upon speaking with Joe for the first time we realized he was something special. Joe is not only a great athlete on the field but is also an amazing person off it. He embraced Connor and Jackson's campaign and stepped up to be a part of it by volunteering his time and labor to help raise awareness for a disease that affects 13,000 people in Upstate NY. We couldn't be more proud to call the Rochester Knighthawks our favorite sports team."

The Knighthawks will start their community schedule Thursday, April 19 th with a 6:00 p.m. practice with Hurricanes Lacrosse at the American Legion at 133 Dorsey Dr. in Greece. The players will learn from Walters, Stephen Keogh and Joel White, who have won a combined four national championships and 10 All-American honors during their college careers.

This weekend, Walters and his teammates will visit First Niagara Center in Buffalo to play the Bandits at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 st . The contest will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network. The game is available on Time Warner Cable Channel 232 and in HD on 1027. The game will be broadcast on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and www.sportsradio950espn.com.
