Knighthawks Announce 2002-03 Roster

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks General Manager Jody Gage announced today the 2002-03 roster.

Familiar faces on the roster include three-time National Lacrosse League All-Star John Grant, goaltender Pat O'Toole, forward Curt Malawsky and defenseman Regy Thorpe. Newcomers include RIT grad Shawn Wilkins, 2002 draft-pick Steve Jennings and 2002 Dispersal Draft pick Steve Penny. For a complete list of players, see the attached roster.

The team also announced the signing of forward Billy Serino. The Nazareth College graduate rejoins Rochester for his second season. He was a member of the 2000 practice squad. Last summer, he played for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse.

The Knighthawks are coming off a 14-10 preseason exhibition win over the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday. Rochester practices tonight at Sportsplex in North Tonawanda, NY, at 8:45 p.m.

The Knighthawks also practice twice this weekend at Total Sports Experience in Gates, NY. On Saturday, December 21st the team hits the floor at 9:00 p.m. On Sunday, the Knighthawks practice session begins at 9:00 a.m. The sessions are free and open to the public.

Rochester opens the 2002-03 season at home on Saturday, December 28th at 7:35 p.m. against the New Jersey Storm. Individual and season tickets are available by calling (585) 454-5335.

In related news, for the second straight season Inside Lacrosse Magazine has tabbed the Knighthawks as the team to beat in the NLL. The December 10th publication cited the team's depth and superstar John Grant as the deciding factors for the prediction. Grant is also one of the heavy favorites to lead the league in points, according to the lacrosse magazine's "Voice of the Fan" section.

Albany, Toronto, Colorado, Vancouver and Buffalo round out the top six teams in the NLL. Six teams qualify for the postseason with the top two division winners receiving first-round byes.
