Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (Sept. 11, 2009) - For the second consecutive year, Milwaukee Wave midfielder/forward Marcio Leite has torn a knee ligament and will miss the entire season.
Leite, 25, has been pegged as a rising indoor soccer star ever since he scored 50 points as a rookie in 2006-07 and was named to the Major Indoor Soccer League All-Rookie team. The following season he scored 80 points and was second-team All-MISL. But a severe ankle sprain in Game 1 of the MISL Semifinals at Baltimore ended his season, and he has not suited up for the Wave since.
The first player signed to a contract in the Xtreme Soccer League last season, Leite was lost for the year with a knee injury in the very first practice on Dec. 1. He had completed his rehabilitation and was eager to resume his professional career, but suffered a repeat of the injury while playing for the Croatian Soccer Club in a national outdoor tournament over Labor Day weekend.
"Words cannot describe how bad I feel for Marcio, as he worked extremely hard to get back to his original form," said Wave Head Coach Keith Tozer. "I have all expectations that he will still play for the Wave in the future."
The Milwaukee Wave professional indoor soccer team is the longest-running soccer franchise in continuous operation in North America. The team celebrated its Silver Anniversary last season, and operates the largest summer soccer camp program in Wisconsin. For more information, visit milwaukeewave.com
