Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Monday that 2003-born forward Yegor Klavdiev has decided to not return to the Hurricanes in 2022-2023, electing to begin his professional career in Belarus.

"We are really disappointed about the news of Klavdiev not returning. It's disappointing to lose a good player who was going to be a key 19-year-old for us this coming season and someone that we were going to count on," said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. "The timing isn't great for us, but his decision was made, and we respect that and wish him the best in his next step."

Klavdiev, 19, was selected by the Hurricanes in the first round (11th overall) in the 2021 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. The Minsk, Belarus product appeared in 61 regular season games totaling 47 points (21g-26a) along with 20 penalty minutes. The 5'11, 180-pound forward finished third in regular season point scoring while finishing second in goals while adding three points (1g-2a) in four post-season games.

Klavdiev penned this letter to Lethbridge and the Hurricanes: "Hello Lethbridge. Thank you very much for accepting me into your city. You provided me incredible care and support.

Thanks to all the Hurricanes coaching staff and the fans for believing in me; it was a great season last year, but I have to move on. While I was away from home during this difficult time, your support helped me out! Thank you to each and every one of you. Thanks for everything Lethbridge and the Hurricanes.

Playing in Canada has been my dream since childhood, and I made it come true. I promise you, despite the circumstances, I will remember you and I will always say you are the best fans! Thanks to all of you for everything."

Klavdiev will turn pro with Shakhtyor Soligorsk (affiliate of the KHL's HC Dynamo Minsk) of the Belarusian Extraliga next season.

The Hurricanes will begin the 2022 ENMAX Pre-Season on Friday, September 9th when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers at the ENMAX Centre. Lethbridge will host the Tigers in the Dairy Queen Home Opener on Friday, September 30th.

Individual tickets for the 2022-2023 regular season will go on sale on Thursday, September 15th while season tickets for the 2022-2023 campaign are available now by calling 403-329-SEAT (7328) or by visiting the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre.
