MEET THE OPPONENT: CALIFORNIA COUGARS
3rd Meeting this Season
11/25/07 - KiXX 14 at California 6
11/30/07 - California 8 at KiXX 6 (OT)
Philadelphia and California haven't met since the first month of the season, when the clubs split a home-and-home series on November 25 and 30. In Stockton, Aaron Susi broke out against his former team scoring two goals and recording an assist for five points. Susi was selected first overall by Philadelphia in the 2007 MISL Expansion Draft after the Cougars left him unprotected. Ptah Myers also contributed two goals, one being a three-pointer against a sixth attacker. On November 30 in Philadelphia, Don D'Ambra scored a goal and two assists in an overtime loss. Former KiXX player Chris Handsor scored 2:41 into the extra frame.
Enrique Tovar leads California with 17 goals in 18 games this season on the offensive end, while Matt Caution ranks third in the League with 39 blocks. Sanaldo has started 17 of 19 games for the Cougars, after being picked up in a trade with the Detroit Ignition during the offseason. Sanaldo holds a 7-10 record and a 13.20 PAA.
Last Week's Outing(s):
KiXX 4, DET 16 (2/15) - John Barry Nusum scored the only two goals for Philadelphia, while Jonathan Greenfield and Mike Apple each recorded two for Detroit. The KiXX were again without the services of All-MISL goalkeeper Peter Pappas, who was out with an eye injury after getting hit in the eye with a shot on February 9 vs. Milwaukee. Philadelphia dropped to 1-3 against Detroit this season, after defeating the Ignition in the 2007 MISL Championship game for the second title in club history. Nusum struck first 6:32 into the first quarter to give the KiXX a 2-0 lead, the only lead they would see the entire match. Former KiXX defender Josh Rife and Mike Apple connected for back-to-back goals to put the Ignition up 4-2. Nusum scored again with 7:42 remaining in the half to head into the locker room tied at four apiece. KiXX keeper Nick Hovaker was credited with the assist on Nusum's second goal, the first point of his career. The Ignition would go on to dominate the second half, scoring six straight goals, four in the third quarter and two in the fourth. Jonathan Greenfield accounted for two and Apple tacked on his second with 7:14 remaining. MISL-leading shot blocker Droo Callahan recorded two assists. Ignition keeper Danny Waltman stopped 11 of 13 shots for his League-leading 11th win of the season, as the KiXX were outshot 38 to 18. 2006-07 MISL MVP Jamar Beasley did not dress for Detroit, who leads the team in points (47) and goals (19). Pat Morris (8 games) and Don D'Ambra (5 games) had their point streaks snapped in the loss. KiXX defender Drew Kopp missed his third straight game with a knee injury.
