Kansas City, MO, January 10, 2004 – The Philadelphia KiXX (9-6) were defeated by the Kansas City Comets, 6-5, in front of 3,911 fans at Kemper Arena in Kansas City. Wes Wade recorded the game winner at 4:21 of overtime. Peter Pappas (8-5), returning to the lineup after missing two consecutive games due to a knee injury, took the loss in net for Philadelphia, turning away 17 of the 23 shots he faced. DJ Horvath (3-8) earned the victory for the Comets with 11 saves on 16 chances.

After nearly 14 minutes of scoreless action, KiXX forward Joel Shanker notched an unassisted strike at 13:58 of the first quarter, giving Philadelphia a 1-0 lead after one full period of play.

Les Lunsford recorded his first goal since the club's last trip to Kansas City on November 28 to extend the KiXX lead to two, 2-0 at 2:12 of the second period. Matt Brooks connected on a dish from Pappas to push Philadelphia ahead 3-0 at 11:06 of the quarter, but Comets forward Dino Delevski quickly cut the lead to one, 3-2, with a pair of restart goals less than 30 seconds apart (13:19, 13:47). The 3-2 KiXX advantage held entering the half.

Delevski knotted the score at 3-3 with his third tally of the night, a power-play goal at 5:01 of the third quarter. Kansas City received the one-man advantage courtesy of a hand-ball penalty called on Pappas. Veteran defender Jeff Davis gave the Comets their first lead of the contest, 4-3, with a restart goal at 12:19 on an assist from Delevski. Kansas City held the one-point lead, 4-3, entering the final period of action.

Anthony Maher connected with Casey Barton to extend the Comets advantage to two, 5-3, at 6:56 of the fourth quarter. KiXX defender Jeremy Aldrich brought the club within one, 5-4, on a feed from Nikola Vignjevic at 7:59 of the period. Philadelphia native Pat Morris tied the score, 5-5, with a strike at 11:42; Vignjevic recorded the assist on the play. The 5-5 tie held at the end of regulation play, forcing Philadelphia to overtime for the first time this season.

Wade knocked in a goal from Davis at 4:21 of the extra stanza, giving Kansas City a 6-5 victory over the KiXX.

Notes: Philadelphia allowed an opposing player to record a hat trick for the second consecutive contest; Delevski tallied three goals tonight, while St. Louis Mark Thomas recorded the feat on January 3. Nikola Vignjevic recorded two points, both assists, to mark his most productive outing while donning a KiXX uniform. Philadelphia was shutout in the third quarter of play for the second consecutive contest; in the two games, the KiXX were outscored 8-0 in the third period. The KiXX are now 0-1 when forced to overtime this season.
