Kingsport Mets win both games of doubleheader against Astros

Kingsport, TN - The Kingsport Mets hosted the Greeneville Astros at Hunter Wright Stadium in a doubleheader on Friday to make up their game that was postponed for rain on July 3rd. Kingsport won the first game 2-0 and held on for a 2-1 victory in the second.

In game one, the only scoring came in the third inning. With two outs, Kingsport's Eris Peguero walked to get a runner on base and then stole second. A double by Jorge Rivero brought Peguero around for the first score. Then, Rivero stole third and scored on a throwing error by Greeneville.

Steven Matz (1-1) pitched six innings, gave up two hits, struck out nine and got the win for the Mets. Flabio Ortega pitched the seventh and final inning, picked up two strikeouts and gave up one hit as he got the save.

After a brief break, game two began with the Mets loading the bases for Jeffrey Diehl who proceeded to hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score the first run. Then, after a walk to load the bases again, Anthony Chavez hit another sacrifice fly to score Kingsport's second run.

The next five innings were scoreless. Then, in the top of the seventh inning, the Astros loaded the bases with one out following singles from Terrell Joyce, Jean Batista and Angel Ibanez. One runner came home a Jimmy Howick ground out, but the Astros could not get another run home before the Mets escaped with the win.

Kingsport's Persio Reyes pitched 6.1 innings, gave up one run on four hits and picked up the win. Shane Bay pitched the final 0.2 innings and got the save after giving up one hit.
