LONG ISLAND--The Cincinnati Kings lose their first game of their inaugural season, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Long Island Rough Riders in United Soccer Leagues Second Division action Saturday night at the Mitchel Athletic Complex, Uniondale, N.Y.

The Rough Riders scored first, in the 13th minute, when William Cabrera made a free kick off a yellow card called on Kings goalie Brian Schaeper. The Kings tied it 5 minutes later, in the 18th minute, on a goal by Travis Sobers, with an assist from Sam Fiore, set up by a corner kick from Jeff Hughes.

A halftime downpour kept the field sloppy and scoring opportunities limited until the 84th minute, when the Rough Riders' Derek Etienne scored the winning goal for Long Island.

"We lost the game because we got outworked," said Kings Head Coach Jon Pickup. "We have to get back to working hard, and out hustling the other team. Mental errors and sloppy play cost us the game."

The Kings had seven shots on goal to the Rough Riders' 10, and the Kings made four saves to Long Island's three.

The loss drops the Kings to 3-1-2 on the season, while the Rough Riders move to 3-2.

The Kings next game is next Saturday night, May 28 at 7:30 p.m. as the Pittsburgh Riverhounds return to the Xavier University Soccer Complex. The Kings defeated Pittsburgh, 2-1, earlier this month.
