Brooklyn Kings News Release
BROOKLYN, NY (May 10, 2006) - The United States Basketball League's (USBL) Brooklyn Kings have gotten off to a 3-6 start after two and a half weeks of play. Their overall record, however, may be a bit misleading when you consider the teams newly signed players.
Returning to the Kings are forwards Anthony Glover (6-6, St. John's '03) and Mike Campbell (6-6, LIU-Brooklyn '98), guards Tobe Carberry (6-4, Vermont '02) and Antawn Dobie (6-0, LIU-Brooklyn, '02). Guard Louis White (6-4, Voorhees '00) formerly of the Pennsylvania Valleydawgs has also joined the Kings recently. These high-caliber veterans significantly change the make-up of the team and will provide a spark as the Kings look to overcome early season struggles and vie for their third consecutive Eastern Division title.
Since joining the team, Anthony Glover is averaging 20.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2 blocks per game while Lou White has contributed 17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks and 3.5 steals per game.
In the first meeting between divisional rivals Brooklyn and Long Island, Mike Campbell scored 26 points to go along with 7 assists and 3 steals while Tobe Carberry added 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the field to lead the Kings to a 132-128 double overtime victory.
Head Coach and General Manager Kenny Charles remarked, "The veteran signings give us much needed experience in close games and better leadership in the fourth quarter. Our rookies will benefit tremendously from the new additions, not that the rookies are not there yet, but these veteran guys can be counted on down the stretch."
The Brooklyn Kings finished the final game on a 6 game home stand on a positive note with the victory over Long Island Primetime on Tuesday and are on a six-game road trip through the Midwest. The Kings will start their trip with back-to-back games in Oklahoma. After touring the Midwest, the Kings will make their way back home after two divisional road games in Scranton, PA against the Breakers May 19th.
The chance to witness the Kings in Brooklyn is May 24 as they host the Kansas Cagerz. Tip-off time will be at 7:00 PM at Long Island University's Schwartz Center.
