Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced on Monday that defenseman Ayron (AJ) Mikkelsen (6'3, 205) has agreed to terms to play for the Killer Bees during the 2011-12 season.

Mikkelsen comes to the Bees after spending last season in Europe playing for White Caps Turnhout in the North Sea Cup, the highest level of professional hockey in the Netherlands and Belgium, and the Belgian Hockey League. The White Caps captured the Belgian Hockey League Championship in addition to their North Sea Cup season.

Mikkelsen is a quality puck moving blueliner who racked up six goals and 35 assists for 41 points during the premier North Sea Cup and an additional seven goals and 11 assists during the Belgian Hockey League season.

"AJ is a player I have very high expectations for this season," said Killer Bees General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "He has all the traits I am looking for; size, speed, puck movement, and heart. He has a proven track record of winning at each program he steps on the ice for and I expect that to continue in the Valley."

Before heading overseas Mikkelsen played four seasons at Manhattanville College (NCAA Div. III) where he finished top-ten in points each season pacing the Valiants to three ECAC-West Tournament Championships. Mikkelsen was twice named ECAC West All-Conference first team (07-08, 09-10), once ECAC West All-Conference second team (08-09), and ECAC-West All-Rookie during the 2006-07 season.

The Killer Bees open their ninth season of play on October 21st against the Missouri Mavericks at State Farm Arena. Full and half season ticket packages are now on sale by calling 956-843-7825 or for more information visit killerbeehockey.com.
