Laredo Bucks News Release

HIDALGO, TX- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League and City of Hidalgo Mayor John David Franz announced Tuesday that the team and the city have accepted the challenge issued by the Laredo Bucks and Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas to play for the Cricket Mayor's Cup.

Cricket Communications will donate $5,000 to a charity of the winning team's choice.

"We have never backed down from a challenge," Franz said. "Not only do we accept, but we'll even up the ante. If Laredo wins, I'll wear a Bucks jersey during a city council meeting if Mayor Salinas agrees to wear a Killer Bees jersey if the Bees win."

"We are proud of our Bucks and want to challenge the City of Hidalgo and the Bees during the season to see who earns the most points between the two teams," Salinas said. "The team who earns the most points head to head against each other will win the Cricket Mayor's Cup."

The Bucks and Killer Bees will meet 16 times this season with eight taking place at Laredo Energy Arena and eight at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo. Pre-season games will not count towards the Cricket Cup. In seven seasons facing off against each other the Bucks lead the all-time regular season series with the Bees 64-21-8, including 11-0-3 last season.

The Bucks will start their ninth CHL season on October 15th with their home opener October 23rd at Laredo Energy Arena. Season tickets are on sale now for the 2010-11 season. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to place our order now.
