Kickoff Luncheon Raises More Than $27,000 For United For D.C.

Washington, D.C. (April 7, 2010) - D.C. United and its non-profit arm, United for D.C., today announced proceeds from the Eighth Annual Kickoff Luncheon totaled more than $27,000. The Kickoff Luncheon featured Dave Johnson, television voice of D.C. United, as the host. United President Kevin Payne and Head Coach Curt Onalfo also spoke at the fundraiser held at the Renaissance, a Washington DC Hotel in downtown Washington.

All proceeds from the Kickoff Luncheon are used to benefit United for D.C., which was established by D.C. United as a 501 (c) 3 organization in 2002. The non-profit has three signature programs: United Reads which supports childhood literacy in Wards 6, 7 and 8 in six D.C. public schools; Kicks for Kids which provides the game-day experience to thousands of inner-city, under-served youth each season; and United Soccer Club which provides free after-school soccer programming to disadvantaged youth in twelve sites throughout the greater D.C. area.

D.C. United's 2010 MLS campaign is currently underway, with the Black-and-Red preparing to travel to north on Saturday, April 10 to play their third match of the season against the Philadelphia Union.
