Richmond, VA - (February 19, 2003) - The Richmond Kickers announced today that veteran defender Chris Fox's contract has been extended, while reserve forward Bret Myers has signed a one-year deal. In other player news, defender Rumba Munthali has been released.
Fox had one year remaining on his current contract but will now be assured a spot on the roster through the 2005 season. He has been a Kicker since the 1997 season and is one of just three current players to have amassed over 10,000 minutes played in a Richmond uniform. A quick, right-sided defender, Fox has also tallied six goals and five assists in his career and was named First Team All A-League in 2000.
Myers saw action in five games as a forward his rookie season, totaling 129 minutes. An Atlantic-10 All Academic selection in 2001, this local product (University of Richmond/Collegiate School) may see increased time in the midfield this year. Details of the contracts were not disclosed.
A 26-game starter in 2001, Munthali saw his minutes drop dramatically last season. After amassing over 2,000 minutes in his rookie year, the athletic defender saw action in only 8 games last season.

Chris Fox has been an important part of our back line for six seasons. We are very pleased to have signed him through 2005. Bret Myers saw limited playing time last year but was an integral part of our training sessions. He has only gotten better and will push for more time in 2003. Rumba Munthali played a lot of minutes in 2001 due to some injury problems that we were facing. He is a very good player who just happens to be a few spots down on our depth chart. We wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up.
