
Kickers advance to USL2 championship

RICHMOND, VA - (Sunday, August 20, 2006) - The USL Second Division regular season champion Richmond Kickers have advanced to the Championship final due to a 0-0 draw in Cincinnati tonight. After defeating the Kings 2-1 on Friday night in the first leg of the two-game, aggregate score series, the Kickers have advanced 2-1 on aggregate. Richmond will host the #2 seed Charlotte Eagles next Saturday, August 26th at 8:00 p.m. at the University of Richmond Stadium in the single-game Championship match. Charlotte defeated the #3 seed Pittsburgh Riverhounds 6-1 on aggregate after a 4-0 romp in Pittsburgh on Friday, followed by a 2-1 Charlotte win at home. The match will be televised LIVE on Fox Soccer Channel. Tickets are $15 general admission (youth or adult) and will go on sale Monday, August 21st via RichmondKickers.com.
Richmond qualified for post-season play for the 11th time in their 14-year franchise history and will be making their fifth Championship appearance this Saturday. The Kickers' four previous league Championship appearances (1995, 1996, 2002, 2005) include winning the Premier League title in 1995 and a shoot-out loss to Seattle in last year's USL First Division final.
