Keystone Sweeps Home Weekend from Springfield

CONNELLSVILLE, PA - The Ice Miners won their third straight and their 4th in 5 games with a 3-2 victory at home over the Springfield Jr. Blues on Sunday afternoon at the Ice Mine. It was the 4th win in 6 games against the Jr. Blues this season for Keystone. Similar to Saturday night, it was Matt Jones scoring the only goal of the first period as he roofed a powerplay goal over Jr. Blues netminder Niko Dellamaggiore at 5:48 of the first period. Taylor Fernandez extended his point streak to five games with an assist and Alex Archibald added a helper. It was 1-0 after 20 minutes.

In the 2nd period, it took the Jr. Blues only 46 seconds to score a powerplay goal of their own a Kyle Meeh fired a shot past Nick Kossoff. At the 7:53 mark, Vito Aluia finished off an A.J. Coleman scoring chance for his first goal in 10 games. Springfield used the powerplay to tie the score again however as Brendan Jacques jammed a puck past Kossoff at 10:31, evening the score at 2 through two periods.

Austin Romzek would give the Ice Miners their third lead of the game with a nifty backhand goal at 5:28 of the 3rd, taking a feed from Noah Batis. Aluia added another point with the secondary assist. That goal would prove to be the game winner as Kossoff shut the Jr. Blues down the rest of the way. He made 39 saves on 41 shots for his 5th win. The Ice Miners improved to 11-10-3, leapfrogging Springfield, Johnstown, and Michigan in the North Division standings.

Keystone remains home next weekend with Friday and Saturday night contests against the Michigan Warriors. Both games begin at 7:30.
