Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - An early lead for the Frederick Keys (0-1) quickly disappeared as Luis Robert powered the Winston-Salem Dash (1-0) to a 9-4 victory on Thursday at Nymeo Field. Over a two-inning span, Robert slugged a pair of home runs on the way to a five-RBI night. Four Keys batters finished with a pair of hits, Ryan Ripken, who finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.

The Keys struck first in the bottom of the first inning after JC Escarra singled home Kirvin Moesquit from third to make it 1-0. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Mason McCoy lofted a flyball to center field that allowed Jomar Reyes to score from third, and a Ripken double brought home another run to give the Keys a 3-0 lead.

Robert tied the game in third inning with a three-run home run and muscled a two-run home run off Brenan Hanifee to cap off a four-run fourth inning and put the Dash ahead 7-3.

Hanifee (0-1) struggled in his Carolina League debut, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on three hits and five walks over four innings. Luis Perez pitched three frames in relief giving up one run, while Travis Seabrooke allowed a home run to Yeyson Yrizzari over two innings.

Zach Lewis, who came on in relief of Lincoln Henzman in the first inning, pitched exceptionally, totaling 6.2 innings while allowing one unearned run. He struck out eight. Jose Nin capped off the game by pitching two scoreless innings.

The Keys return to action against the Dash on Friday, April 5 with first pitch slated for 7:00 PM. Left-hander Cameron Bishop (0-0. --) makes his Advanced-A debut opposite LHP John Parke (0-0, --) for the Dash.

Friday's game includes a Branden Kline Frederick Keys/Governor Thomas Johnson High School T-Shirt giveaway to the first 1,000 fans. Fireworks follow the game presented by American Disposal Systems.
