AFL I Arena Football League (1987-2008)

Key Arena League matchup highlights NBC weekend lineup

April 28, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

NEW YORK – April 28, 2005 – A key Arena Football League match-up (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET), the historic Penn Relays (Saturday, 4-6 p.m. ET) and the inaugural National Heads-Up Poker Championship (Sunday, Noon-1 p.m. ET) highlight NBC Sports' weekend programming lineup.

LAS VEGAS GLADIATORS AT CHICAGO RUSH, SUNDAY, 1 PM ET

The AFL on NBC features a crucial match-up – the Las Vegas Gladiators (7-5, T2nd place, Western Division) at Chicago Rush (7-5, 2nd place, Central Division) – with both teams fighting for the playoffs. The Rush and Gladiators have met three times previously with Chicago holding a perfect 3-0 mark.

Bob Papa (play-by-play), Ray Bentley (analyst) and Marty Snider (reporter) will call the action. Chris Jackson of the Georgia Force will be the guest in the AFL on NBC studio joining host Al Trautwig and analyst Glenn Parker. Jackson is one of the AFL's premier offensive specialists. Since his arrival to Arena Football five seasons ago, Jackson has caught more passes, gained more receiving yards and scored more touchdowns than any player in the AFL. He is the only player in AFL history to be named both Rookie of the Year (2000) and then Offensive Player of the Year (2003).

The Gladiators are coming off a bye week after back-to-back victories that moved them back into playoff contention. The Rush have won five of its last seven contests. Five teams (Chicago, Colorado, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Jose) are battling for four playoff spots in the American Conference with four games remaining.

Las Vegas is led by offensive specialist Marcus Nash, who leads the AFL in receiving yardage. Gladiators QB Clint Dolezel captured an ArenaBowl title in 2001 while with the Grand Rapids Rampage.

Chicago QB Raymond Philyaw ranks seventh in the AFL in passing; WR/DB Etu Molden is tied for seventh in touchdowns. Defensively, the Rush are tied for fourth in fewest touchdowns allowed.
