AFL must-see matchups: week 14
April 28, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
LAS VEGAS QB CLINT DOLEZEL AND OS MARCUS NASH vs. CHICAGO QB RAYMOND PHILYAW AND WR/LB ETU MOLDEN
Two of the Top 10 scoring combos in the League meet in a battle with playoff implications when Las Vegas QB CLINT DOLEZEL (6-5, 205, East Texas State) and OS MARCUS NASH (6-4, 210 Tennessee) travel to Allstate Arena to take on Chicago QB RAYMOND PHILYAW (6-1, 200 Northeast Louisiana) and WR/LB ETU MOLDEN (6-2, 195 Montana) this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on NBC. The Gladiators (7-5) and Rush (7-5) are both one game back of first place in their divisions.
Dolezel, one of only four quarterbacks in AFL history to throw for over 30,000 yards in a career, has been named the Offensive Player of the Game in his last two games and has thrown more touchdowns in his last six games than any other quarterback in the League (43). Dolezel has thrown five or more touchdown passes in each of his last six games since being activated from the injured list. Currently in his 10th AFL season, the former Lion ranks in the top five in nearly every career passing category.
Dolezel will look to connect with 2004 Offensive Player of the Year Marcus Nash, who has caught 95 passes for a League-high 1,354 yards this season. Nash, who is two touchdowns catches shy of 100 on his career, has been named Offensive Player of the Game five times this season and ranks No. 3 in touchdowns with 28 and is tied for No. 3 in scoring (180). Last season, Nash led the League in scoring (300), touchdowns (49), first downs (112), and double-digit receiving games (7).
Philyaw has been one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the League over his seven years of service. He currently holds the record for most passes attempted without being intercepted (299), and this season ranks No. 2 in the League in pass completion percentage (69.0) among quarterbacks with 100-or-more attempts. In 10 games this season, the former Northeast Louisiana standout has completed 240-of-348 (69.0%) passes for 2,728 yards and 48 touchdowns.
Philyaw's favorite target, 2004 Rookie of the Year finalist Etu Molden, has caught 78 passes for 968 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushed for four touchdowns ranking him No. 8 in scoring (162) this season. Molden was awarded Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 12 after catching eight passes for 152 yards and five touchdowns, as well as returning an onside kick 15 yards for a sixth score in a victory over the Central Division-leading Colorado Crush. Last season, the former Grizzly ranked in the Top 10 in receptions (101), yards (1,280), touchdowns (29) and scoring (198).
