Kentucky Mavericks Basketball Tryouts a Success
July 21, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Kentucky Mavericks News Release
Bowling Green, KY. The second round of open tryouts were held this past weekend with the ABA Kentucky Mavericks and the turnout was a success. Talented players came to Bowling Green from across the country, including players from USC, UK, SIU, TTU, WKU, Georgetown and many others. All who participated (60+) worked very hard to try to get a spot on the team.
On Saturday, the three-time All American, Jim McDaniels, who ranks as one of the best known of all former Hilltopper athletes and former ABA/NBA star, made a guest appearance and took a moment to speak with the players. McDaniels spoke of the great opportunity the Mavericks team is for the players, the community and the sport. He received several rounds of applause from everyone present for his remarks and was very passionate about the team being in South Central Kentucky. Afterward, the Mavericks held a dinner gathering at a local hotel restaurant where all of the players trying out and the attendees were invited.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
