Kelowna Falcons News Release

Klamath Falls, OR: Sunday didn't turn out to be an enjoyable Canada Day for Canada's only West Coast League team. The Kelowna Falcons were swept by the Klamath Falls Gems 7-6 in 10 innings.

With the Gems down to their final five outs and the Falcons in front 6-2, the bullpen would fall apart. Tyler Hoelzen, Dominic D'Souza and Curtis Sawchuk would allow five runs on three hits, walking seven batters handing the Falcons their third straight loss.

Greg Friesen would get the Falcons on the board in the fourth inning with his third homerun of the series. Also in the inning Kyle Moses would drive in a run to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead.

The lead would extend to 3-1 when Friesen doubled to drive in Block Slavin in the fifth.

The Falcons would then score three times in the top of the seventh on a balk and a two run single by Jerry McClanahan...it was not enough.

The Gems would get one back in the bottom of seventh off Falcons starter David Ernst, who was great in his third start. Ernst would leave the game after seven after allowing one earned run, scattering four hits and striking out two.

In the bottom of the eighth the Gems would score three times on just one hit and would trail by just a single run.

Then in the bottom of the ninth the Gems would score on a two out hit by Greg Velazquez to tie it at six. They would then win it in the 10th scoring an unearned run on a two out rally.

The Falcons "D" would commit four more errors on Sunday, and commit 12 in the series.

With the loss and a Bellingham victory, the Falcons fall back to third place in the East Division and searching for answers. The club will look to rebound on Monday night when they open a three game series in Bend.

The Falcons will return home on Friday night when they host the Corvallis Knights.
