Kelowna Falcons Open Season

May 30, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release

The Kelowna Falcons will open the 2016 season on Friday night at Elks Stadium when they host the Bellingham Bells and admission is FREE.

For the first time in franchise history the Falcons will begin the season as the defending Eastern Division champions following last year's record setting season. The Falcons played for the West Coast League title last August after winning 34 regular season games and their first pennant.

New manager Bryan Donahue (Mt. Hood Community College) along with General Manager Mark Nonis have put together a roster of 35 players, which includes three returners. All-Star Max Carter, infielder Lane Lacrone and outfielder Joey Crunkilton all played significant roles last season and are back with the club.

"We're excited about our group," says Nonis. We are hoping to see the same synergy as last year and I think our three returning guys can be leaders bringing together our team quickly. The fact our team gelled so much last year contributed to our success."

This year's roster includes nine players from the state of Washington, seven players from California and one from West Kelowna. Trevor Mlait was a standout for the Okanagan Athletics and just completed his first season south of the boarder playing for Utah State University Eastern.

Friday night's admission is FREE courtesy of TELUS. The gates open at 5:30pm, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. The Falcons will host the Bells in a three game weekend series before heading to Walla Walla to begin the road portion of their schedule.
