Kelowna Falcons Notch Comeback Win

August 7, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release

The Kelowna Falcons had to use their last at bats to pull out a come from behind victory on Saturday night beating the Kitsap Bluejackets 7-6.

Down 6-5 heading into the final frame and the Jackets' closer Matt Cartwright on the hill, pinch hitter Nick Colwell would reach after being hit by a pitch down in the count 1-2. It was the fifth Falcons' batter to be hit in the game. Jeff Melby would reach on a throwing error, and then both runners would move up after a wild pitch. That set the table for Victor Rasor-Thompson to come up with the game winning hit. Rasor-Thompson would hit a fastball into left-center field to bring home both Colwell and Melby with the tying and winning runs. It would be the sixth and seventh RBIs for the switch hitter who also tripled in the game.

The Falcons found themselves trailing three times in the game at 3-1, 5-2 and 6-5. They tied the game at five in the sixth before the Jackets regained the lead in the eighth.

Cade Bowen (2-0) recorded the win after pitching just a 0.1 of an inning in the top of the ninth. With the Jackets looking for an insurance run Bowen would slam the door leaving a runner at third base; a performance that would prove to be extremely important.

Rasor-Thompson would finish 2-4 with the two RBI, Bo Folkinga was 3-3 and Greg Friesen collected his team leading 21st RBI with double in the sixth.

Each team would tally nine hits, with the Jackets compiling three errors which led to three Falcons runs, including the game winner. Cartwright falls for the third time this summer.

With the win the Falcons have won their first seasonal series of the year and will look for their first sweep on Sunday night in the series finale. Sunday night is also Family Pack Night; get four game tickets, four hotdogs and four pops for just $40.00. The gates at Elks open at 5:00pm; first pitch is set for 6:05pm. David Otterman will take the mound for Kelowna in his final start of the year.

The Falcons would also like to congratulate the Okanagan Sun in their come from behind victory in their 2011 home opener over Langley.
