
Keith Friel To Attend Court Dedication

(Rochester, NY)...Rochester RazorSharks guard, Keith Friel, will be attending the court dedication for his late father, Gerry Friel, legendary men's basketball Head Coach at the University of New Hampshire. The ceremony will take place Sunday, January 27, 2008 prior to the start of the UNH men's basketball game vs. the University of Hartford. The court will be deemed "Friel Court" at the Lundholm Gymnasium. The ceremony will be highlighting the Alumni basketball weekend at UNH with a special dinner following the game for the team, basketball alumni, and Friel's family and friends.
Gerry Friel spent 20 years (1969-89) as the head coach for the University of New Hampshire men's basketball program. Friel ranks a top of all men's basketball coaches at UNH in the 100 years of the program with 188 victories. Following the '82-'83 season, he was named the ECAC North Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year. He was named New England and U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-District Coach of the Year as well that year. In 2006, Gerry Friel was inducted to the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.
Friel assisted Boston Celtic legend Bob Cousy at summer basketball camps during the 1950's. He would go on to be an assistant coach with Cousy at Boston College where they led the team to the NCAA tournament in 1967 and 1968, as well as advancing to the NIT Championship game in 1969.
After retiring from coaching, Friel served as the Director of University Athletic Relations prior to his new role as the Director of Athletic Fundraising. He also served as Associate Vice President of the UNH Foundation. Among many endowments, Friel helped bring the Towse Rink and the Reggie F. Atkins Track facility to the UNH Campus.
Keith Friel will be absent from the RazorSharks home game, Sunday, January 27, 2008 as Rochester takes on the Chicago Throwbacks at 2:05pm.
In Keith Friel's absence, the RazorSharks will activate Arthur Barclay, who will wear #34. Barclay, a 6'8" Power Forward/Center, and a Camden, N.J. native was high school and college teammate of DaJuan Wagner at Camden High School and the University of Memphis. Wagner was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers and also played for the Golden State Warriors.
