Florida Seals News Release

Orlando, FL - The wait is finally over for Seals fans. General Manager Chris LiPuma announced Wednesday that the Orlando Seals have committed to playing in the Southern Professional Hockey League for the 2004-05 season. This decision ends a long period of uncertainty for the Seals organization, which was noted to move to the World Hockey Association on more than one occasion.

In addition to this long-awaited resolution comes even more good news for the Seals. Head Coach Jim Paek today announced the return of center Jerry Keefe and winger Heath Gordon to the Seals organization. The former Providence College teammates both signed tryout agreements Wednesday to attend training camp this fall. In accordance with team policy, the terms of the deals have not been disclosed.

"We are very happy to have Jerry and Heath back for the upcoming season. Both players have the ingredients I am looking for to cook up a championship team," Coach Paek said. "Jerry has had some bad luck with injuries but he has proven that he is a valuable asset to our team. I am proud to invite him to training camp."

Despite being plagued with injuries in 2003-04, Keefe finished the season averaging a point per game, tallying 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) in 33 games for the Seals. The Arlington, MA, native completed the season strong, netting six goals and three assists in the Seals' final four games.

In his four year career at Providence College, Keefe compiled an impressive 98 points in 104 games, including 52 points his junior year. He has played for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the AHL as well as for Trenton, Atlantic City, and Charlotte of the ECHL.

Gordon, who joined the Seals late in the season, compiled four goals and four assists in 14 games for Orlando. The diligent winger tallied three points (2g, 1a) on April 1 for his largest output of the season. As a member of the Friars, Gordon racked up 78 penalty minutes while also contributing 32 points over 89 games.

The Seals are currently accepting season ticket applications for the 2004-05 season. For more information call the Seals at (407) 447-PUCK (7825).
