January 7, 2021 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Florida Tropics SC News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - The Florida Tropics, Presented by Bond Clinic, will be right back at it with its second straight weekend doubleheader at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland when the Kansas City Comets come to town for games Friday, Jan. 8 and Sunday, Jan. 10
Kickoff Friday night is at 7:05 p.m. while Sunday's start is at 3:05, both Eastern Standard Time. Tickets are available through the team's Facebook page (look for event link) and will be available at the RP Funding Center box office on game days.
Both teams are undefeated. Florida swept a pair from St. Louis last weekend at the RP Funding Center, with wins of 4-1 on Jan. 2 and 7-5 on Jan. 3 against the St. Louis Ambush.
Ian Bennett scored three goals and added an assist in the Sunday triumph, while Ricardo Carvalho assisted on all four Florida goals in the season-opener. Kevin Ellis led Kansas City to an 8-5 opening-weekend on the road against the Dallas Sidekicks. Lucas Souza added two goals and an assist.
Hugo Silva, the reigning goals against average netminder in the MASL after posting a 4.14 mark in 2019-20, picked up both wins in goal, and tied a team record for fewest goals allowed at home with one in Saturday's contest.
At present, 11 teams have committed to playing in the 2021 season, although that could still change depending on local restrictions related to the pandemic. Six teams are playing in January, with the remaining teams to join the mix in February. Teams will play between 12 and 24 games, with playoff seeding determined by overall winning percentage.
The league is announcing schedules only a month at a time because of the pandemic restrictions, but the final games of the regular season will be played by April 18.
Single game tickets are available through the team's Facebook page (click on the event link), or by calling 863-240-0101. Tickets will also be available gameday at the RP Funding Center box office. The team and arena have devised a socially distanced seating plan that can accommodate approximately 1,500 fans per game. Facial coverings will be required for those in attendance.
