Nashville Kats News Release

NASHVILLE (Apr. 15, 2005) – The Nashville Kats have activated wide receiver/linebacker Jarrick Hillery from injured reserve, head coach Pat Sperduto announced on Friday. The team also placed lineman Ryan Roth on injured reserve and moved recently acquired defensive specialist Monty Montgomery to the refuse to report list.

Hillery (5-10, 200) has been plagued by a hamstring injury that he suffered in a week four loss at New York on February 19. The five-year veteran has missed the last six games, and he will see his first action since initially suffering the injury in Sunday’s home game against Los Angeles.

Hillery caught 24 passes for 204 yards and five TD’s in the first four games this season. He also made 10 tackles, intercepted a pass and averaged 18.7 yards on six kickoff returns before his injury. Hillery has scored 65 career touchdowns and intercepted nine passes in his six seasons in the league.

The veteran will join T.T. Toliver and Reggie Stephens as wide receivers/defensive backs on the team’s active roster, giving the Kats plenty of weapons at that position.

Nashville placed Roth on injured reserve after the lineman injured his foot in practice on Thursday. They moved Montgomery, whom they recently claimed off of waivers from New Orleans, to the refuse to report list after the second-year player decided not to report to Kats practice this week.

In other news, Nashville is still seeking to find a kicker after waiving Matt Hutto earlier this week. Hutto, who replaced Gary Kral at the placekicker spot last week, missed three field goals and two extra point attempts in the Kats’ tie at Dallas last week. The team has been working out three veteran AFL kickers in Tony Dodson, J.R. Jenkins and Derek Schorejs, and they will each take part in a practice at the Gaylord Entertainment Center this afternoon. The Kats expect to sign one of the three to the active roster on Saturday.

Nashville puts its two-game unbeaten streak on the line on Sunday at noon when the Kats entertain the Los Angeles Avengers at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. Tickets are available at the G.E.C. box office and through Ticketmaster.
