
Katia nominated for ESPY Award

SAN JOSE (June 16, 2003) â Katia, the San Jose CyberRays' Brazilian forward, is one of four WUSA players nominated for the ESPY Award for Best Female Soccer Player.
For the first time, the annual awards from ESPN covering 17 categories in the sports world will be decided by online voting from fans who visit www.espn.com. Fans may vote through June 30, and the winners will be announced during ceremonies in Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on Wednesday, July 16. ESPN will show the awards live at 6 p.m. PDT.
Also nominated in the Best Female Soccer Player category were goalkeeper Kristin Luckenbill and forward Birgit Prinz of the Carolina Courage, and forward Marinette Pichon of the Philadelphia Charge.
Katia was the CyberRays 2002 Offensive Player of the Year and was named to the All-WUSA first team for leading the league with 15 goals and breaking the league scoring record with 36 points (15 goals + 6 assists).
