PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS (March 31, 2015) - FC Kansas City defender Kate Deines announced her retirement from professional soccer after finishing her loan with FFC Turbine Potsdam in the German Frauen Bundesliga.

Kansas City acquired Deines from Seattle Reign FC, along with Seattle's second round (No. 16 overall) and third round (No. 26 overall) draft picks in the 2015 NWSL College Draft. In exchange, the Blues sent the rights to midfielder Merritt Mathias to Reign FC.

"I have been beyond blessed to have gotten the opportunity to play professionally in the NWSL the past two seasons," Deines said. "I have recently been presented with a job opportunity that will jump-start the next phase of my professional life outside of soccer."

The Portland, Oregon native played 859 minutes and started nine out of the 18 games she played with Reign FC in 2014. She made 35 total appearances over two seasons in Seattle. A graduate of the University of Washington, Deines started a school-record 86 games and scored 21 goals for the Huskies. She was also named a two-time NSCAA Scholar All-American.

"I truly cannot thank FC Kansas City enough for their belief in my abilities and taking a chance on me," Deines added.

FC Kansas City will kick of the 2015 National Women's Soccer League season on April 12th against Sky Blue FC at Sporting Park.
