WTT 2020: CBS Broadcast of Kastles vs. Rollers Match Draws Record Numbers
The numbers are in, and they're even higher than expected!
CBS' nationally televised broadcast of the Kastles' victory over the Vegas Rollers on July 19 drew 484,000 viewers, the most in WTT's 45-year history. The Kastles, led by Venus Williams and Arina Rodionova, defeated a star-studded Rollers roster that included doubles greats Bob and Mike Bryan, and top-American Sam Querrey, 24-18.
The previous viewership record for World TeamTennis occurred on July 21, 2019, with the league's debut on CBS for a match featuring the Philadelphia Freedoms and Vegas Rollers. That telecast delivered 409,000 viewers.
"We are thrilled that tennis fans are tuning in to see some of the biggest names in the sport compete in our event, the first major tournament in the U.S. since the pandemic, and are hopeful that this is just the beginning in the continued growth of team tennis," said WTT CEO Carlos Silva.
WTT will air its championship match live on broadcast TV for the first time when CBS presents the 2020 WTT Final on Sunday, Aug. 2 at Noon ET/9 AM PT.

Washington Slips to Orlando, 23-17
In an unexpected turn of events, the Washington Kastles fell to the Orlando Storm on Tuesday at The Greenbrier. After winning the first two sets in men's and women's singles, the Kastles slipped in the three remaining sets of doubles, allowing Orlando to claim their first encounter of the season, 23-17.
New Kastle and world #57 Tommy Paul built on his win over top-American Sam Querrey on Sunday. Paul edged Orlando star and recent Australian Open quarterfinalist Tennys Sandgren in the opening set tiebreak to give Washington a narrow, 5-4, lead.
Rising Kastles star and current world #60 Bernarda Pera also delivered for DC in the next set. The Croatian southpaw defeated Orlando rookie and 2019 Citi Open champion Jessica Pegula, 5-4, in women's singles to push the Kastles ahead, 10-8. But the Storm rallied in the remaining sets of doubles, scoring 15 of the next 22 games.
After losing in women's singles, Pegula came alive in doubles. Partnering with WTT veteran Ken Skupski, the Citi Open singles champ defeated Kastles duo Arina Rodionova and Marcelo Arevalo, 5-3, in mixed doubles. Pegula widened her margin of victory with Darija Jurak, besting Rodionova and Pera, 5-1, in women's doubles, catapulting the Storm ahead, 18-14, prior to the final set of the match.
It fell to Arevalo and Kastles rising star Nick Monroe to keep Washington's hopes alive against Sandgren and Skupski in men's doubles. The pair had a chance to get ahead in the sixth game. A double-fault from Sandgren and a down-the-line forehand pass from Arevalo gave the Kastles three breakpoints, but the Storm held their nerve to stay on serve, at 3-3, and maintain Orlando's lead.
Sandrine and Skupski then shot ahead in the next game, breaking Arevalo's serve, which allowed Skupski to serve out the set, 5-3, and the match for Orlando, 23-17.
The Kastles are back in action tonight. The six-time WTT champs face the 2017 champion Breakers. Watch LIVE on ESPN2 at 7 p.m.
