
Kastles Honored on US Open Stadium Court Tonight

Washington Kastles News Release
The Washington Kastles will be honored for their 2009 World TeamTennis Championship tonight at the US Open on Arthur Ashe Stadium Court. Billie Jean King will present the Kastles and owner Mark Ein with the King Trophy immediately following the conclusion of the 7:00 p.m. match featuring top ranked Roger Federer and before the second match featuring defending Champion and the Kastles own Serena Williams. It will mark the first time that a WTT championship team has been honored like this at the US Open.
Ein will be joined on-court by the Kastles team - Coach Murphy Jensen, Leander Paes, Rennae Stubbs, Scott Oudsema, and Olga Puchkova. The ceremony is currently scheduled to be carried live on national television on ESPN 2.

Serena, Leander, Rennae and Nadia all Seeded in Multiple Events
Defending US Open and Wimbledon Champion Serena Williams leads a lineup of Kastles stars competing in this year's US Open. Women's Singles
Serena Williams - #2 Seed
Nadia Petrova - #13 Seed
Serena began her US Open title defense on Monday by defeating Alexa Glatch in straight sets (6-4, 6-1). She will face her second round opponent, Melinda Czink of Hungary, in Arthur Ashe Stadium tonight. The Kastles Nadia Petrova defeated her first round opponent Katarina Srebotnik, 6-3, 6-3, on Tuesday.
Women's Doubles
Rennae Stubbs - #3 Seed
Serena Williams - #4 Seed
Nadia Petrova - #8 Seed
Kastles star Rennae Stubbs and partner Samantha Stosur, runners-up at Wimbledon, are seeded third in the Women's Doubles draw. Seeded fourth are Wimbledon doubles champions Serena and sister Venus Williams. Nadia Petrova and partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands, are seeded eighth. They are all expected to begin play on Thursday.
Men's Doubles
Leander Paes - #4 Seed
Leander Paes is seeded fourth in the Men's Doubles with partner Lukas Dlouhy. Paes-Dlouhy defeated the team of Victor Hanescu and Gabriel Trifu 7-6, 7-6 in the first round Tuesday.
Mixed Doubles
Leander Paes - #2 Seed
Nadia Petrova - #6 Seed
Rennae Stubbs - #7 Seed
Leander and partner Cara Black return as the defending US Open Mixed Doubles Champions. The pair is seeded second. The Mixed Doubles draw also features two other Kastles -- Nadia and partner Max Mirnyi are seeded sixth while seeded seventh are Rennae and partner Robert Lindstedt.
On Thursday, August 27th, Washington, DC Mayor Adrian Fenty presented the 2009 WTT Champion Washington Kastles with the Key to the City in front of over 250 cheering Kastles fans on the steps of City Hall. Murphy, Leander, Rennae, Scott, and Olga took a break from their US Open preparations to return to DC to receive this prestigious award as a team.
After presenting the Key to the City to the Kastles, the Mayor thanked the team for bringing a championship to DC and praised the Kastles for their charitable contributions to the city and District youths. After the Mayor's remarks, owner Mark Ein thanked the fans for their tremendous support throughout the season and the players for inspiring the whole city. Murphy Jensen addressed Kastles fans last and noted how this WTT season was his best experience in tennis and it was Kastles fans who had inspired the team to "Refuse to Lose."
After the ceremony, Kastles fans joined the team for a fan appreciation lunch at the Occidental Restaurant where they had an opportunity to share their memories of the season with the team and have their photos taken with the newly engraved King Trophy.
Following the fan appreciation lunch, the team boarded a Tourmobile bus with the King Trophy for a victory tour through Washington, DC.
