Sporting Kansas City News Release
The Kansas City Wizards will look to build on their first road win of the season Wednesday night at Columbus with a trip to face the Colorado Rapids Saturday. The match kicks off at 8 p.m. CT and is the final regular-season meeting between the clubs in 2010. Kansas City won the first MLS game 1-0 on a header from Kei Kamara April 10 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Three days later, the Rapids won an Open Cup play-in match 2-1. The game will be broadcast live locally on KCWE 29.
Rookie striker Teal Bunbury scored his first MLS goal on the night, while goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen posted his 6th shutout of the year with a season-high seven saves. Three of Nielsen's saves were highlight-reel efforts. Midfielder Ryan Smith picked up his 6th assist of the season, putting him into a tie for 5th place in MLS.
Scoring first will be key Saturday. The Wizards scored first for the 4th time this season on Wednesday. Kansas City is a perfect 4-0-0 when getting the first goal. MLS teams are an incredible 84-5-19 this year when scoring first.
After Kansas City's game at Colorado Saturday, the Wizards will return home to take on English powerhouse Manchester United next Sunday, July 25 at 5 p.m. CT at Arrowhead Stadium.
