Sporting Kansas City News Release
The Kansas City Wizards today announced the signing of striker Kei Kamara to a multi-year deal with Major League Soccer. Kamara played in six games for Kansas City, scoring one goal after moving from Houston Dynamo near the end of last season. Per team and League policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"We're very pleased to be able to re-sign Kei," Wizards Manager Peter Vermes said. "He adds a different dimension to our attack that we hope to take advantage of."
"I feel good," Kamara said. "Everything's possible because of [Wizards Manager Peter Vermes]. I want to say thanks to him for bringing me back. I'm excited about the team and eager to get started on the 2010 season."
A native of Kenema, Sierra Leone, Kamara emigrated to the United States while still a teenager and enjoyed a successful college career with California State University-Dominguez Hills. Drafted 9th overall in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew, Kamara went on to score five goals in 36 appearances with the club over two seasons before being traded to the San Jose Earthquakes.
Kamara split 2008 between two clubs - first scoring two goals in twelve appearances with the Earthquakes before being traded to the Houston Dynamo mid-way through the season. Kamara would go on to help the Dynamo capture the 2008 MLS Supporter's Shield before being traded again the next season - this time to the Kansas City Wizards.
Kamara has also made four appearances for the Sierra Leone National Team, most recently in the team's World Cup Qualifying campaign.
