South Bend, IN - Team President Joe Kernan is pleased to announce that Lynn Kachmarik has been named the Vice President and General Manager of the South Bend Silver Hawks.

"We are delighted to welcome Lynn as she joins our Silver Hawks staff," said Kernan. "She brings a wealth of experience in athletic administration, knowledge of our local community, and an infectious enthusiasm than will make the Cove even more fun for fans and families in 2010."

Kachmarik (pronounced Cash-Mare-Ick) joins the Silver Hawks from the South Bend/Mishawaka Convention and Visitors Bureau, where she has served as Executive Director since January.

"I am very excited to be part of the Silver Hawks organization," said Kachmarik. "Our goal is to make the Cove 'the place to be' this spring and summer with increased energy, more opportunities to meet the team, dynamic family fun and an entertainment environment for all."

Prior to joining the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Kachmarik served as the Director of Athletics and Recreation at Saint Mary's College from 1999 to 2008.

Additionally, Kachmarik enjoyed success at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, where she coached the men's and women's water polo teams, as well as the men's and women's swimming and diving programs. In 1995, Kachmarik was named Bucknell's Director of Aquatics - a position she held until coming to Saint Mary's.

Upon being named the head coach of the men's water polo team in 1986, Kachmarik became the first woman to coach any NCAA Division I Men's Team Sport.

Kachmarik received a Bachelor and Master Degree in Education from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. She was a four-time Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (A.I.A.W.) All-American Swimmer in college and was inducted into the Slippery Rock Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.

Kachmarik was a member of the U.S. Women's National Water Polo Team for 12 years, including six as captain. She was the first woman inducted into the Collegiate Water Polo Hall of Fame in 2003 and among the first group of women to be inducted into the United States Water Polo Hall of Fame in 2004.
