Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
The Hillcats fell into an early hole and could not recover in their 6-2 loss to the K-Tribe on Saturday night at City Stadium. The rubber-match of the three-game set takes place on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. at Calvin Falwell Field.
The Indians staked themselves to an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Matt Brown clubbed an RBI double in the frame. They added another run in the third inning with Brown's first home run of the season to make it 3-0 K-Tribe.
An inning later the Indians added another run to their lead. Cord Phelps drove-in Tim Fedroff with a base hit and it was 4-0 Kinston through four innings of action.
The Hillcats would finally get on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs. Kinston starter Eric Berger loaded the bases with nobody out after the first three men in the frame. A past ball allowed Kris Watts to score with the Cats first run of the night. Another run came across on the RBI groundout by Jose De Los Santos to cut the lead to two.
Unfortunately, the Cats would get no closer as Kinston extended their lead with a couple of runs in the eighth inning to finish the scoring. Adam Davis and Matt McBride both brought in a run to put the finishing touches on the 6-2 Kinston win.
Starter Justin Wilson (2-2) took the loss for Lynchburg (14-9) and Chen-Chang Lee (1-1) earned the win in relief for the Indians (12-11).
The final game of the three-game series is on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. at City Stadium. Right-hander Ronald Uviedo (0-1, 2.70) will head to the hill for the Hillcats opposite righty Zach Putnam (2-0, 5.00) for the Indians.
