Just under $500,000 in study-grants awarded in 2010-11

BOUCHERVILLE, Wednesday, February 9, 2011 - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced that a total of $499,350 in study-grants has been awarded to 127 former players to help them pursue their education at a college, university or trade school.
"The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and its teams invest significant dollars toward education and these statistics show that former players benefit from study-grants which can now reach up to $20,000," said Natacha Llorens, the League's Education Advisor and Players Help Program Coordinator.
The grants awarded by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and its teams help players pursue their goals.
"The QMJHL study-grants are very beneficial, helping players get an education and they also enabled me to continue playing hockey at the university level," said Dominic Jalbert, alumni of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens now pursuing a degree in business at Ottawa University. "Moreover, it's a huge benefit to be able to pursue an education without the burden of having to hold a job to pay for it. This way, I can put more energy into school and more focus into hockey. It's a big advantage."
