Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs had one great period on Friday night, but it was the other two periods that ended up going the other way. The Montreal Junior scored three goals in the first and four goals in the third, as they defeated Lewiston 7-5 in front of 3,011 at the Auditorium de Verdun.

The MAINEiacs came out with a ton of jump from the opening face-off, taking just 26 seconds to get onto the scoreboard. Pierre-Olivier Morin dug the puck out of the left corner, before finding Etienne Brodeur, who tapped a shot in from the doorstep on the right side of the crease.

After a successful penalty kill, things went downhill for Lewiston in the first. Trevor Parkes knotted the score at one, jamming in a power play tally at the 8:21 mark. Just over two minutes later, the MAINEiacs were on the power play themselves, but a costly turnover allowed Nicolas Chouinard to light the lamp shorthanded. Four minutes after that, David Rose found the scoresheet, beating a screened Nicholas Champion high over the blocker.

In the second period, the MAINEiacs rebounded, scoring three straight goals to take the lead. Lewiston got within one at the 8:53 mark, as Cole Hawes scored on the rebound of Francis Beauvillier's initial shot. A little less than five minutes later, the visitors knotted things up, as Beauvillier got a goal of his own, beating Jean-Francois Berube glove side from the left circle. Stefan Fournier and Zach Shannon assisted on Beauvillier's tally. However, the MAINEiacs weren't done yet. With two Montreal players in the penalty box, Matt Bissonnette found Etienne Brodeur above the goal line on the right side. Brodeur hammered a one-timer into the cage for his 29th goal of the season.

Unfortunately for Lewiston, the third period went the other way, as Montreal responded with four consecutive goals. Nicolas Chouinard got a step on a defender at the 1:15 mark, poking the puck up under the crossbar for the equalizer. Less than three minutes later, the Junior retook the lead, as Jean-Christophe Laflamme picked the top-right corner over Champion's glove. 3:05 later, Chouinard completed his hat trick, finishing off a centering pass by Denis Kindl. Dylan Anderson and Cameron Critchlow then exchanged goals, giving the game a 7-5 final score.

Jean-Francois Berube picked up the win for Montreal, making 26 saves on 31 shots. Nicholas Champion took the loss, allowing six goals on 26 shots, before giving way to Andrey Makarov. Makarov stopped four of the five shots he faced in his second straight relief appearance.

The MAINEiacs will conclude this portion of their schedule on Saturday at 4:00, when they visit the Shawinigan Cataractes. Lewiston's next home game takes place on December 30th at 7:00, when they play host to the Victoriaville Tigres.
