After a two-hour rain delay last week during pro-lacrosse's debut in Milwaukee , the Chicago Machine (1-6) lost after a grueling 10-goal third quarter by the Washington Bayhawks. Chicago came out strong in the first half and at halftime was up 6-5. In the fourth quarter, the Machine had several great shots at getting back to even, but couldn‘t finish the comeback. The final score was a close 16-14. The Machine is hoping for sunnier skies and has a positive outlook as they prepare to play in front of a hometown crowd against the Toronto Nationals (4-4) at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, IL at 4:00pm CT on Saturday, July 4th.

Chicago: The Machine offense has been consistently delivering strong throughout the season. Last week, Chicago remained ahead of Washington until the third quarter when the Bayhawks tied the league record with 5, two- point goals in a single game. Chicago's Brendan Loftus tallied a hat trick, leading the Machine in goals for the night. Rookie All Star Kevin Nims continued his solid consistent play by adding a goal and an assist. Mike Leveille scored twice while Kevin Leveille, Matt Striebel, Bill McGlone and Chris Rotelli found the back of the net once. Goalies Bud Petit and Mike Gabel combined for 11 saves.

Toronto: The Nationals come off a disappointing week with a 19-15 loss against Boston followed two days later by a 20-16 loss to Denver. The team is reeling after three consecutive losses. Rookie Doc Schneider had a shaky performance last week, lowering his goals against average to 17.96. He is currently sitting at the bottom of the goalie leaders (Machine's goalies Gabel and Petit average 14.33 and 15.00, respectively).

Keys to the Game: Chicago is fired up for the game against Toronto. Although the team has the talent and drive to succeed, the Machine again needs to regroup defensively. Chicago attackers have been over performing all season. It is critical that the Machine step up their defensive game against Toronto and put a finish to their 6 game losing streak. Toronto needs to re-energize during the match up against the hometown favorites, the Chicago Machine, to secure a win.
