JR Thomas assigned to the Pioneers for his third af2 season

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are pleased to announce the assignment of offensive specialist JR Thomas to the team's 2006 roster.
"I'm pumped to have JR back with the team this season," said Head Coach Rich Ingold. "He's a fellow IUP grad that I've know for many years. I believe his best year is yet to come."
2005 proved to be a difficult season for Thomas who suffered a lower leg fracture in May that sidelined him for several weeks. Battling through his injuries, Thomas still posted impressive numbers. He was second in receiving with 76 receptions for 884 yards and 22 touchdowns. Thomas led the Pioneers in Missed Field Goal returns with three for 46 yards; kick off returns with 44 for 1,008 yards and all-purpose yards with 1,938.
Thomas has been the Pioneers OS since 2004. In his rookie season, Thomas had a team record 97 receptions for 1,316 yards and 26 touchdowns. He led the team in Missed Field Goal returns with two for 34 yards, kick returns with 33 for 808 yards and four touchdowns, scoring with 30 touchdowns for 180 points and all-purpose yards with 2,158. His efforts in 2004 won Thomas the af2 Rookie of the Year.
After spending one year each at Potomac State and Montgomery Community College, J.R. completed his past two seasons at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was one of 22 players in history with 1,000 or more receiving yards and he is tied for 10th in school history with 12 touchdown receptions. Thomas was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West second team all-star for both 2001-02 seasons at IUP. He averaged 54.5 yards a game with 12 touchdowns in 22 games played. Thomas was also named special teams player of the year and was an All-American nominee.
