Jr. Blues Lose Two To North Iowa; Drop Six Points Behind Southern Minnesota
March 9, 2008 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
North Iowa Outlaws News Release
The Springfield Jr. Blues played good hockey, but not good enough as they drop two important games to the division leader N.Iowa Outlaws.
The Blues kept it close in both games, losing 3-1 on Friday and 2-1 on Saturday.
Matt Larke scored the only goal for the Blues Friday night, assisted by Jon Gaffney and Ritchie Zobak. Down 2-1 with a minute lest in the game, goaltender Phil Cook was pulled for a sixth skater. N. Iowa scored an empty-netter to make the final 3-1.
On Saturday, the Jr. Blues couldn't stay out of the penalty box and were whistled for 39 minutes in penalties, including a nine-minute penalty against Mike Crowder. Somehow the Blues killed that one off but couldn't hold off the Outlaws on the next powerplay, which was a 5-3 advantage.
Kyle Greco had the lone Springfield goal but it was a beauty that would make any ESPN highlight film. He was assisted by Klemen Sodrznik. The Blues outshot the Outlaws 33-32
The Blues slipped six points behind S. Minnesota , who beat Bismarck twice this weekend. The Blues are five points ahead of Alexandria in 3rd place.
Next Up for the Blues, thier last two regular-season home games next weekend vs. the Fargo-Moorehead Jets. Legendary Hall of Famer, Bobby Hull will be on hand before the game to sign autographs and drop the game puck.
