Jordan, Ulsh Take Home First Weekly Awards of 2023

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Newport outfielder Dakota Jordan (Mississippi State) and Bristol RHP Mason Ulsh (Quinnipiac) have been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League's (NECBL) Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for the first week of action in the 2023 regular season.

Jordan has been the backbone of the Gulls' 5-0 start on the offensive end, hitting .429 through Newport's first five games. He opened the season with a triple against Mystic, which plated two runs to help lift the Gulls to their first win of the season on opening night. Jordan has had at least one run scored in three of the four games he has played in this season, including three runs scored June 11th at Vermont and two runs scored vs Bristol on June 7th. Jordan has consistently been on base for the Gulls, with a hit in each of the games he's played and drawing four walks on the season.

Jordan had a stellar first season at Mississippi State as a true freshman, earning SEC Freshman of the Week in April, as well as being on the 2023 SEC All-Freshman team. During his 2023 season, he hit .307 with 47 hits, ten home runs, and 40 RBI in 41 games started.

Ulsh has appeared in two games this season, and has yet to surrender a run in seven innings pitched. The Auburn, Pennsylvania product has only allowed four hits to twenty-five batters faced, and has yet to issue a walk. In both of his appearances, he has led Bristol to wins over Valley and North Adams.

During his 2023 campaign at Quinnipiac, Ulsh had an ERA of 5.31 over the span of sixty-one innings, going 3-2 and earning three saves.
