
Jones' Pair, Kossoff's Fourth Shutout Leads Miners over Jr. Blues

CONNELLSVILLE, PA - Matt Jones scored twice in a span of 10 minues while Nick Kossoff registered his 4th shutout of the season as the Ice Miners blanked the Springfield Jr. Blues, 4-0 on Friday night at the Ice Mine. It was Keystone's fourth win in a row, and their 8th in the last 9 games.
Neither team scored in the first period despite a 12-8 Keystone shot advantage. In the 2nd, Noah Batis broke the collar with his team leading 11th goal, set up nicely by A.J. and Jacob Coleman at 6:19. Just over three minutes later, Jones got his first of the night after Taylor Fernandez dangled through the offensive zone. Keenan Sabatani also assisted on Jones' 9th of the season. Jones would get number 10 at 19:07, deflecting a point shot from Reed Scahill behind Jr. Blues netminder Dryden McKay. Jon Hall added a helper and it was a 3-0 score through two periods.
Joey Sofo added his third goal of the season at 13:29 of the third, set up by Garrett Hallford and LordAnthony Grissom. Sofo has two goals and a two shootout winners over the four game winning streak. Kossoff made 26 saves for his 9th win and 4th shutout. He also moved into the league league in save percentage with a .937 mark. The four shutouts are tied for 2nd in the NAHL as well.
Keystone will try for five straight wins for the first time this season as they host Springfield again on Saturday night at 7:30. All college students who present a valid college I.D. get in for just $5. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at keystoneiceminershockey.com.
