Memphis Xplorers News Release

Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 will host the Amarillo Dusters tomorrow night in the Xplorers first home playoff game in franchise history. Game time is scheduled for 7:30pm at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Memphis is no stranger to the Amarillo Dusters, a new af2 franchise this season. These two teams have tangled twice already during the regular season, with the "X-Men" emerging victorious in both contests. The most recent game was on May 14th in Memphis when the Xplorers won 46-40, but lead by as many as 27 points in the first half.

One of the top reasons for the Xplorers success in those two contests, and a major part of the entire season's success, has been the passing-receiver combination of Xplorers QB Brian Jones and OS Kevin Prentiss. In week 2 of the season, the Xplorers visited Amarillo and defeated the Dusters 66-41. Jones found Prentiss six times in the endzone that night, tying a franchise record already held by Prentiss. In total, Prentiss caught nine of Jones' 17 completions for 186 yards. Prentiss also added two kick return TDs, giving him a total of 48 points in the game, a new Xplorers record.

"It was one of the most dominating offensive performance I have ever seen in a game," said Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto. "Kevin and Brian were both clicking on all cylinders that night."

The second contest was not as impressive as the first for the offensive duo, however, the numbers they put up were not something to glance over. It was Prentiss again who, lead the receiving attack for Memphis. This time he caught 12 passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Jones had a total of 20 completions in the game.

"They had great games against the Dusters this season," said Barto. "But this is something these guys have been doing all season."

Prentiss finished the regular season with 103 receptions, 97 of which were delivered by Jones. Jones ended the season with 246 completions. Nearly 40 percent, 39.4% to be exact, of the completions that Jones had this season were to Prentiss. In the two games against Amarillo, the Jones-Prentiss attack was responsible for 21 of 38 receptions or 55.3%.

"We are expecting more fireworks from these two guys Friday night," said Barto. "Their focus on this game, along with the rest of the team is exactly where it needs to be."

The Xplorers are 2005 Mid West Division Champions. The first home playoff game in franchise history is tomorrow, August 12th at the DeSoto Civic Center at 7:30pm.
